The ProgramWhat We're All AboutWho We AreThe Pregnant and Parenting Teen Program provides information and support to pregnant and parenting teens to:Promote a healthy pregnancy. Facilitate healthy decision making regarding pregnancy and parenting. Maximize opportunities for education and/or training. Gain knowledge of and access to community resources. Foster the development of individual strengths and independence. The Pregnant and Parenting Teen Program is a community based, child centred and family focused service. A Board of Directors provides program direction and support to the Executive Director. The Board represents a broad spectrum of stakeholders and financial supporters of the Program.Goals & ObjectivesWe believe that:The Pregnant Teen Program is engaged in the development and delivery of flexible, child-centered, family-focused and community-based preventative services intended to meet the following objectives.To promote good pre-natal care to the pregnant teen to ensure optimum health for teen and baby during pregnancy and after birth. To enhance the pregnant or parenting teens opportunity for successful completion of schooling. To strengthen pregnant and parenting teens abilities for self sufficient, independent living and decrease generational and/or individual dependence on financial assistance. To broaden and improve pregnant and parenting teens natural support and resource bases. To provide experiential-based parenting practice to reduce generational patterns of child abuse and neglect and the need for child welfare involvement. To provide supports to ensure healthy functioning and connections within the parenting teens family. Safe and healthy families are the cornerstones of safe and healthy communities. Pregnant and parenting teens and their children have a right to be safe and healthy. Pregnant and parenting teens have a right to continue their formal education. Teens, who choose to parent following pregnancy, have the capacity and should be provided the support to achieve this goal. It is important to provide pregnant and parenting teens with the opportunity to make their own choices. Given appropriate information or resources, pregnant and parenting teens can make good choices for themselves and their children. Pregnant and parenting teens need the support of parents and families. Success in programs and services for pregnant and parenting teens requires collaboration and cooperation from the community as a whole. It is the responsibility of Government to provide leadership, legislation and financial support to promote and develop safe and healthy families. Supports that enrich and strengthen pregnant and parenting teens enrich and strengthen the entire community. On-site NurseryOur "First Steps" Nursery offers the opportunity to actively promote normal infant development and the ability to use teachable moments to encourage good parenting practices. Its a child care service that teen moms must have in order to do school work.
