Message from Board Chair, Brenda Yeates
It is with a mix of sadness and gratitude that the Board of Directors is sharing the news that Melodie McCracken is stepping down as our Executive Director. Melodie has played a vital role in the growth and diversification of services offered by the agency and we are so proud of the work she has accomplished. Melodie has demonstrated exceptional leadership throughout her years as Executive Director – always taking in stride the various changes and challenges that she has been presented with. We know that the lives of teen parents have been improved through Melodie’s ability to envision and carry out comprehensive, client-centered and strengths-based services. The impact of Melodie’s advocacy, dedication, and passion for young families in the Grande Prairie community is immeasurable and we are so thankful to have had her with our organization for the best part of twenty years!
As the Society for Support to Pregnant and Parenting Teens Board of Directors, we are aware that leadership transitions can present challenges as well as opportunities. We are grateful to have a strong board, knowledgeable staff and invested partners that are valuable assets during this transition time.
To ensure a successful transition we have formed an executive search committee and will have transition plans in place to ensure there will be no programming disruptions during the leadership change. As a board, we invite you to be in contact should you have any questions about the transition or the Executive Director position. I can be reached via email at email@example.com. We will continue to provide updates as necessary to ensure all community questions or concerns are addressed in a timely fashion.
We wish Melodie all the best in her newest adventures and look forward to our paths crossing again.
Chair, Board of Directors
Message from Melodie McCracken, Executive Director
After almost 20 wonderful years working with the Society for Support to Pregnant and Parenting Teens, I recently announced my plans to step down as Executive Director at the end of February. I did not arrive at this decision lightly as I care a great deal about this amazing organization, the families we serve, our staff, our volunteers, and all our partners. Most importantly, I care deeply about the work we do to ensure teens who are facing uncertainty know they have options and can create a positive future for themselves and their children. Working collaboratively to offer a diverse range of supports through a relationship-based lens has been a key element to my work and will continue to be a big part of who I am and what will continue with Pregnant and Parenting Teens moving forward.
In my role as ED, I’ve contributed and acquired many valuable experiences and learnings that I am sure will continue to leave positive marks on the lives of many, including myself. As I move forward, I look forward to working on new community projects and spending more time with my young grandchild.
It has been my privilege to lead Pregnant and Parenting Teens through an important period of transformation and growth. We have a remarkable staff and dedicated board of directors; I am proud of what we have accomplished together. I will be working closely with the Transition Committee moving forward to find a new ED and support that person in their transition.
As a past client in the program, I know that this program changes lives and I am grateful for each one of you that has invested your time, knowledge or resources into this agency. I hope that I will have an opportunity to thank you in person for your partnership and commitment to young families before leaving however if I don’t please know you make a difference.
